It’s Christmas Eve and tonight Dryden will light up the cemetery in memory of loved ones.
Organizer of the Festival of Lights David Raine says it’s a special tradition for many.
“It’s a celebration for the family members and friends who are no longer with us,” says Organizer and Ice Candle maker David Raine. “Families young and old taking time out of their busy schedules at Christmas and making their way out to the Cemetery on December 24 and lighting a candle in the memory of their friends and family. It’s getting bigger and bigger every year, the cemetery is just beautiful.”
You can see it from Highway 17 and Raine adds it’s really something you have to see in person.
“Tom Riley and myself are now making the ice candles and I’ve been involved in it for over 25 years. I think Tom has been helping me out for 5-8 years and we’re slowly picking up more volunteers to help us out.”
Donations raised support Dryden Canadian Mental Health Association programs.
