Provincial Police have a Winnipeg resident in custody after half a million dollars of cocaine was seized during traffic stop on Highway 17.
On December 10 around 11 a.m. officers with the Ignace Provincial Police detachment saw a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and attempted to make a traffic stop.
The driver failed to stop and due to public safety concerns, officers discontinued the traffic stop.
Police later found the vehicle east of Dryden near Zealand Township and conducted another traffic stop, at which time the vehicle pulled over.
Further investigation revealed that the driver was operating a stolen vehicle and had a large quantity of cocaine, valued at approximately $500,000 and Canadian Currency.
As a result, police say 28 year old Jessie Thera of Winnipeg, Manitoba is charged with:
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 – in Canada – Criminal Code 354(1)(a)
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – Criminal Code 355(a)
- Flight from peace officer – Criminal Code 320.17
- Trafficking Schedule I substance – Cocaine – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 5(1)
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 5(2)
The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
