A 43 year old has been arrested following an on-going investigation into firearms trafficking in the Atikokan area.
Provincial Police and several other agencies carried out multiple search warrants in October and November at homes in Atikokan and on Highway 11.
A number of restricted firearms registered to a local resident were seized.
Four more search warrants were conducted December 2.
Several items were seized including multiple firearm magazines, ammunition, gun cases for handguns, computers, cell phones, firearm registration and financial documents as well as one non registered firearm.
OPP say Nicola Raccioppi of Atikokan faces eight charges.
He remains in custody.
Charges include:
-Trafficking a restricted firearm contrary to Section 99 of the Criminal Code
-Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to section 92(2) of the Criminal Code
-5 counts of Fail to report a lost or stolen restricted firearm contrary to section 105(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
– Possession of counterfeit money contrary to section 450 of the Criminal Code
