The results of a homelessness survey in the Kenora District should be known in the next couple of weeks.
Chief Administrative Officer of the Services Board Henry Wall says last month, a point-in-time count was conducted in all the communities in the region.
“This was part of our requirement by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to do so but also provided a good opportunity to look back over the last three years to see what has changed in the district and the number of the investments made over the last three years…what are their impact,” says Wall.
He is optimistic numbers will actually be down from when they last conducted a similar count three years ago.
“We are hoping there will be less. There are a number of key investments that have been made over the last couple of years. I think we’ll kind of get a sense, in terms of what has the impact of the global pandemic been, with respect to putting more pressure on people experiencing homelessness.”
Wall says the COVIVD-19 pandemic has affected homeless numbers not only in the district but Ontario and across Canada.
