The MP for Kenora is puzzled with the make-up of the new federal cabinet.
It was unveiled last week.
Eric Melillo admits there is a good mix of MP’s from different areas and different backgrounds but questions some of the appointments.
“There’s so many experienced MP’s, former cabinet ministers federally or provincially, that are on the back bench and seemingly having no role in turning the direction of this government. It is quite shocking.”
Melillo notes there’s always some concerns with the direction of the government but he’s anxious to return to Ottawa and work with cabinet and all MP’s.
He adds he is pleased to see Thunder Bay-Superior North representative Patty Hajdu head up FedNor.
Melillo says this is the first time under the Liberal regime that someone from the north is put in charge of the region’s economic development agency.
“I’ve worked with her in a couple of other incidences. Of course with the Health portfolio she was quite busy over the past couple of years. But, I am looking forward to working with her and holding her feet to the fire as well when necessary.”
Here is the weekly column from Kenora MP Eric Melillo:
Dear Constituents,
I recently enjoyed the opportunity to visit Pickle Lake to meet with Mayor Monck about municipal priorities.
I later joined Mayor Monck for an informative tour of the Auteco gold drilling site in Pickle Crow. I appreciated speaking to workers to learn how this facility safely provides access to our valuable natural resources while creating jobs for residents.
As we prepare for Parliament to resume in the fall, I have been making a point of visiting as many communities in the Kenora riding as possible. I’ve had many valuable conversations over the past few weeks, which will guide me in standing up for families, workers, and business owners in Northwestern Ontario, not to mention the industries that contribute so much to our economy.
Making Life Affordable
Last week, the Conservative Party called on the government to take immediate action to address skyrocketing cost of living.
Inflation is at its highest rate in twenty years, and food prices have shot up almost 4% in the last year alone. Canadians are struggling to feed their families, and and seniors, low-income people, and rural and Northern communities are among the most vulnerable.
We are urging the government to take the necessary steps to reduce inflation and prices of necessities, support farmers and food producers, and lower cost of living for Canadians.
Conservatives have been proposing practical solutions to protect the supply chain and reduce the cost of food for Canadians. This includes removing barriers to recruiting seasonal workers to harvest crops, ensuring supply managed sectors are compensated for recent concessions that were made in trade deals, and improving programs to increase food security in northern communities. And in the previous session of Parliament, we successfully fought to exempt farmers from the carbon tax.
Conservatives will stand up for Canadians
