The OPP is reminding motorists to drive safe this Thanksgiving weekend.
Motorists are asked to follow the rules and drive with caution as highways may be busier the next couple of days.
Provincial Police are taking part in Operation Impact where officers will be on the look out for impaired, aggressive and distracted driving as well as for those not wearing a seat belt.
To date, Provincial Police say they’ve responded to more than 39, 400 motor vehicle collisions and 195 of which were fatal.
Police say speed has contributed to 51 road deaths, driver inattention to 35, drivers and or passengers not wearing seatbelts accounts for 34 while alcohol and or drugs has been a factor in 23.
OPP officers from across the North West region will be participating in Operation Impact throughout the long weekend. If you plan on travelling please ensure to follow speed limits, take breaks, avoid distractions and respect the larger vehicles by providing adequate space. ^mg pic.twitter.com/GHJ65m2Xh3
