The NDP candidate in the most recent federal election admits she was groped while campaigning.
Janine Seymour says any kind of abuse directed at a candidate, campaign workers, or supporters is unacceptable.
“We are going to have bigger discussions about what that means to have safe campaigns for everybody,” says Seymour.
“Because I saw a lot of verbal violence and things like that too, and none of that was okay with me.”
Seymour says any sort of abuse on the campaign trail is harmful to the candidate and others associated with them.
“I did make sure to talk to all the candidates early on, to come to some kind of understanding. We all agree safety for ourselves, safety for our team, all our supporters, and everybody behind us.”
Seymour says there needs to be a larger discussion about the abuse of candidates during an election campaign.
