The province’s health minister confirms Ontario will try to take some pressure off of Alberta’s overloaded hospitals during its fourth wave of COVID-19 cases.
Alberta is in a state of public emergency because of its COVID-19 situation.
Alberta Health Services said this week that they are looking for any available space for intensive care beds, with many of southern Alberta’s intensive care units close to capacity.
Christine Elliott said Friday that other provinces lent a hand when Ontario was struggling earlier in the pandemic, and now it will do the same.
“Our officials are having conversations right now about exactly what they need, and we will be there to support them and help them,” she said following an announcement in the Quinte region.
Alberta Health Services President and CEO Dr. Verna Yiu announced Thursday that the two provinces were discussing transferring patients.
Elliott added Ontario would likely be offering help in the form of intensive care beds.
