Saturday is your opportunity to dispose of your hazardous waste at no cost.
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is being held at Public Works yards in Dryden and Sioux Lookout.
The Sioux Lookout drop-off is 8:00 am until 3:00pm, while the Dryden event is from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm.
Items collected include:
Pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, antifreeze, furniture polishes and waxes, wood preservatives, household cleaners, toilet and drain cleaners, acids, car batteries, metal polishers and cleaners, paint stripper, solvents, old paint, rust remover, acetylene, fluorescent light bulbs/tubes, batteries, mercury thermometers, hobby chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
Rotary is one of the partners for the Dryden collection day.
Roger Gould says, “It’s a fun day for all us as Rotary because we get to see so many people coming through the garage at Public Works. We had 29 Rotarians, family and friends last year helping us out, five City staff and six Miller staff. A good crew and we do put through a lot of stuff that day.”
Gould says, “We filled over one and a half transport trucks with the hazardous materials that would normally go into our landfill. We had over 450 vehicles go through and we’re hoping this year that we can at least keep those numbers or even make it better.”
He is asking you to keep products in their original containers.
One of the big ticket items being accepted are vehicle, ATV and snow machine batteries.
“Those batteries actually are sent in to Interstate Batteries in Winnipeg,” said Gould. “They provide a nice cheque that comes back to Rotary that we can use for programs like school bursaries, Rotary Youth Exchange, food banks, hospital equipment throughout the whole region and shelter homes.”
