Dryden’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection day is just over a week away.
Rotarian Roger Gould was a guest on the CKDR morning show today to promote the event.
“In conjunction with the City of Dryden, Dryden’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is Saturday September 18. It starts at 8:30am over at the Public Works building and goes until 4pm.”
Residents are invited to bring items like pesticides, cleaners, old paint and more to get sorted and hauled away to separate recycling facilities.
Gould says last year was the most successful collection to date.
“We filled over one and a half transport trucks with the hazardous materials that would normally go into our landfill. We had over 450 vehicles go through and we’re hoping this year that we can at least keep those numbers or even make it better.”
One of the big ticket items being accepted are vehicle, ATV and snow machine batteries.
“Those batteries actually are sent in to Interstate Batteries in Winnipeg,” said Gould. “They provide a nice cheque that comes back to Rotary that we can use for programs like school bursaries, Rotary Youth Exchange, food banks, hospital equipment throughout the whole region and shelter homes.”
