A new app is coming out promoting Dryden attractions, shopping, and tourism opportunities.
It’s being launched by the Dryden Trailblazers Tourism Association.
Michael Readman says the app allows users to collect points while visiting various locations, landmarks and businesses.
“And then redeeming those points at other businesses to enjoy discounts, special sales, etc. So, that is in the finishing touches at the moment and we’re excited to have it come out.”
The newly formed association is tasked with distributing 50% of the local hotel accommodation tax to boost tourism in the area.
Official Dryden Trailblazer Tourism Association Media Release:
The Dryden Trailblazer Tourism Association (DTTA) is a newly formed committee operating under
direction from the Dryden District Chamber of Commerce (DDCC).
Greg Waites, Chair of the DTTA and Director on the DDCC, says, “We have been tasked with distributing
a set percentage of Dryden’s Municipal Accommodation Tax proceeds. The 4% tax is collected from local
hotel accommodators by the City and 50% is allocated to the DTTA. The committee consists of
representatives from the Dryden District Chamber of Commerce, local hoteliers, citizens of Dryden, City
Council and the City of Dryden.”
Mike Readman, a member of the DTTA and General Manager of the Dryden Best Western, says, “Our
mandate through this committee is to use Municipal Accommodation Tax proceeds to advance the City
of Dryden as a tourist destination by supporting and promoting local events, initiatives and
infrastructure that bring people to the City.”
Currently, the members are meeting regularly to put together a robust and thorough plan for how they
intend to allocate the funds. Early plans include the launch of the Dryden Trailblazer app, which will be
available free on iOS and Android devices. The new app will be a one-stop source of information for
both locals and visitors on all that the City of Dryden has to offer for dining, hiking, sightseeing, shopping
and entertainment, and it utilizes a points-based reward system to incentivize shopping at local
businesses.
Readman goes on to say, “We are excited about the development of this committee and the framework
that we are putting in place to promote the City of Dryden as a tourism destination in Northwestern
Ontario. We feel that our community has plenty to offer – definitely a lot more than what meets the
eye.” The DTTA is planning to accept community applications starting in early 2022. Applications may be
submitted based on the three areas outlined in the mandate: Events, Initiatives, and Infrastructure.
