The Principal for St. John’s Catholic School in Red Lake says students won’t notice a lot of change when they return to the classroom Thursday.
The now-normal health and safety protocols are in place including masks, hand hygiene, physical distancing, and sanitization.
However, Corrina Glazier notes there will be more of an emphasis on actual learning and well-being.
“We’re going to be prioritizing our relationship with our students. Mental health support and our learning renewal. At St. John School, we are a ‘Leader In Me School’ and we will be focusing a lot on our leadership process.”
Glazier says they will be promoting outdoor learning as much as possible as masks aren’t required.
She believes students will be more engaged without having to sit inside with masks and in cohorts.
Glazier notes several families have dropped by and visited in the past week to check things out.
“One of the things that we’re noticing from our educators, our families and our students is the word excitement. People are so excited to be able to come back to in-person learning and we can’t wait to see everyone.”
Glazier says staff and teachers will be outside waiting when the buses and cars pull-up.
“We have the new front of our school for a student drop-off and pick-up zone and it’s just going to add an additional safety measure for our students and our families and our staff.”
Glazier says there will be some temporary changes to the student drop-off and pick-up system.
