The NDP candidate for the Kenora Riding might be new to the political world but she’s eager to make history.
Janine Seymour admits the New Democrats haven’t had a lot of success in the riding.
“I’m quite excited,” admits Seymour.
“This riding has only been orange once in the ’80s…no females, no Anishinaabe either. So to be the first Anishinaabekwe MP for this riding would be making history.”
Seymour says she plans to make health care, in particular, mental health, one of the key issues in the riding in the election campaign.
“I think we know with the pandemic and the Kenora area having the highest per capita of residential schools, and the impact of that. So we’re living it. So health would be a priority issue.”
Seymour will be going against David Bruno from the Liberals, incumbent Eric Melillo from the Conservatives, and Remi Rheault of the Greens.
