A September 20 federal election is expected to be called Sunday.
Kenora MP Eric Melillo says he’s prepared to hit the campaign trail if the call is made but stresses the timing is not right and there’s no need for an election at this time.
Melillo says as it stands now the government has the confidence of the House and we are still working through COVID-19 and a fourth wave.
The Conservative MP is the confirmed candidate in the upcoming vote and says he’s heard the talk but is more focused on getting out and meeting with constituents.
He says, “There’s a lot of people that are concerned with the direction of this government. Concerned with reckless Liberal spending. They are concerned with lack of infrastructure investments in the North. Or the way that this government has overlooked our region for far too long.”
