It’s a classic tale of keeping hope alive, even if the odds are stacked against you! For those didn’t follow the story, a 5-month old brindle lab cross named Tucker went missing on March 5th after going for a dump run with his family.
Approximately 1 in 3 pets will go missing in their lifetime… and the chances of finding your dog within 24 hours is about 90% which drops to about 55 to 65% after 24 hours. Painting an opposite picture of hope, it’s easy to understand why situations like these are so stressful for all involved.
Luckily, with the help of the community – the family was able to rally together search efforts. With over 3000 people in the local Facebook group ‘Finding Tucker’, and a hefty reward, there was at least a chance of finding the cute dog and his tie. And a chance there was!
He’s been found after 5-months of uncertainty!
It was last weekend that the family finally got word of Tucker, and he was spotted in Cochrane. That’s over 700 kilometers away from Thunder Bay!
In a post to Finding Tucker, Kayla Maguire-Stein wrote the following:
“Over the weekend, we were blessed enough to bring our boy home! It’s quite a long story, but to put it short he was found a long way from home (about 7/8 hours). At this time we’re going to take a few days for him to settle because he’s not feeling too well right now. On the way home he suffered a seizure. He did see a vet and they said that it could be from everything he’s been through, perhaps his lifestyle, just the stress of everything. I know some are going to wonder how we know it’s him, well we just knew, just as everyone said we would. When we got there his tail started wagging and I was greeted with a wet kiss to the face. He also grabbed his old favourite toy and was tossing it around like he used to. He knew too. We’re in pure disbelief. We seriously can’t believe it, and want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for not giving up.”
How Tucker ended up in Cochrane is unknown, but at least he’s back at home safe and sound!
