The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says there were 18 new fires in the region Tuesday.
The Kenora district led the way with six, while the hard hit Red Lake area saw three new starts.
There were two in the Dryden region.
There are now 79 active fires in the northwest and 30 are considered not under control.
The fire hazard is in the high to extreme range.
Meantime, more than 700 people have been evacuated from Pikangikum, Poplar Hill and Deer Lake First Nations.
