More emphasis has to be put on funding public health and social programs in Dryden.
That’s the direction Janet Kaus wants the City to take in order to help curb higher crime rates in the community.
The President of the Dryden Police Association says, “An increase in funding in public health, social housing and other social services by the City of Dryden will be a direct investment in the health and well-being for the citizens of Dryden, which in-turn will address the root causes of the crime.”
Kaus warns, “Unless the City invests in social programs and services, the issues that our members face everyday will not change. The social problems will remain.”
Kaus says her members see first hand each day the impact the lack of funding to combat mental health and addictions and substance abuse is having on some members of the community.
She notes only 2% of the municipal budget goes to social housing, while 1% is allocated for public health.
