Will Ontario follow Alberta and Saskatchewan?
On July 1 Alberta will lift nearly all COVID-19 public health restrictions while Saskatchewan will follow suit ten days later.
Ontario’s outgoing Medical Officer of Health is Dr. David Williams.
“The Public Health Measures Table and others will be looking at what is beyond Step 3,” says Dr. Williams.
“What does that mean in a near fully vaccinated society, with a period of time for the vaccine to take effect of course.”
Dr. Williams feels it’s a bigger decision in this province.
“Especially in Ontario where the amount of travel in and out far supersedes any of those seen in places like Alberta and Saskatchewan.”
Our province is scheduled to enter Stage 2 of its reopening plan on July 2.
There is mounting pressure on the province to speed up the process as a result of declining COVID rates and high vaccinations.
Dr. Williams says a number of factors go into their decision making and hopes to provide an update in “due time.”
