High praise for Dryden’s Chuck Schmitt.
He is the winner of the Hockey Northwestern Ontario ‘Most Deserving Official Award’ for the 2020-2021 season.
HNO says the veteran referee has always shown a willingness to help supervise and mentor the junior and senior officials on and off the ice.
They add Schmitt has a full plate with work, community involvement, Dryden Minor Hockey fundraising, and spending time with family, but always makes time and puts in the effort to give back and make HNO’s officiating program better.
In a statement the regional branch says the veteran referee has a great sense of humour in the dressing room and keeps the mood positive before game-time.
They add Schmitt always provides teachable moments during games that helps officials to challenge and elevate their game to the next level.
HNO calls Schmitt a staple in the Dryden, hockey and Northwestern Ontario community.
