Three young creative writers from northwestern Ontario have been honoured by the provincial government.
Mya Dixon from Sandy Lake First Nation, Denyce Sandy from Kenora and Pearson Meeseetawageesic from Fort Hope have received the James Bartleman Indigenous Youth Creative Writing Award.
Only six students in Ontario received the prestigious award.
The recipients are being recognized for writing remarkable stories that illustrate powerful and personal accounts of their unique perspectives and challenges.
The honour is also for their role in promoting literacy among Indigenous youth.
All six receive a one-time award of $2,500.
