Lillian Mary McKenzie June 21, 1943 – June 2, 2021
Lillian entered the promised land with her husband and her daughters by her side. Leaving to mourn is her husband Carl of 47 years and her daughters Gabby, Pat, Shelley, and Jodi. Lillian was predeceased by her two son’s Gregory and Derek.
Lillian was born in The Pas, MB to Adelaide and Roderick McKenzie. Shortly after Lillian was born her family moved to Red Lake, ON for the mining opportunities. The “McKenzie” family had 12 out of 17 siblings reside in Red Lake where they raised their families.
Lillian’s history with the community of Red Lake goes back generations. Living in a mining town, you end up developing a lot of friendships, she always had a good story and/or joke to share. Lillian was well known for her hard work, tell it like it is attitude, quick wit, and a caring personality. Anyone hurting or in need, Lillian was sure to do what she could to help and that often meant organizing a fundraiser. Fundraisers to Lillian were never boring and it included hours of laughter as she knew how to draw a crowd.
Lillian loved her husband and her children, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and the grandchildren with whom she took under her wing and treated them like her own. Lillian’s love for her family and friends is her legacy. Lillian worked hard so we could be fed, she disciplined so we understood boundaries, she stayed silent so we could learn from our mistakes, she held us when we were heart broken and through it all she loved us unconditionally.
She has left so many behind to grieve from her siblings, in laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society through the Red Lake Chapel, Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0.
