Forest companies seem to be philosophical about high lumber prices.
Biliana Necheva is a spokesperson for EACOM says because lumber is a commodity there are large swings in prices.
“It’s a very cyclical industry,” explains Necheva.
“You know 2019 was a rough year for us and the start of 2020, especially the start of the pandemic, did not look very rosy at all. Some mills had to shut down. Fortunately, no Eacom mills had to shut down.”
Necheva adds they are planning to put their profits to good use.
“What we are doing in the meantime is investing in our people and facilities to make sure we’re ready for the next downturn.”
Necheva says at some point the price of lumber will go down again, so they have to be prepared for that eventuality.
EACOM owns the sawmill in Ear Falls.
