Leadership in Sachigo Lake First Nation stress they won’t tolerate illegal drug activity in the community.
A local resident has been evicted from the reserve following a bust.
Acting on a tip, Chief and Council, with the assistance of a local officer, searched a home last Monday and seized drugs, drug paraphernalia and more than $141,000 cash, believed to be from the sale of illicit drugs.
Nishnawbe Aski Police were notified but the Chief and Council have the authority to carry out such investigations.
An existing By-Law gives leadership certain powers to protect residents from drugs and alcohol.
Chief Robert Beardy says they will remove anyone participating in the making or selling of narcotics without hesitation.
