The 2021 Empowered Kids Ontario scholarship program is now accepting applications from students across northwestern Ontario.
Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Churchill says six awards are available with each valued at $2,500.
This year for the first time there is a new scholarship specifically for Indigenous students.
Churchill says, “We were delighted to actually welcome FIREFLY and Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority to membership in Empowered Kids Ontario last year. It just made sense that we should actually do something to celebrate by offering this scholarship.”
She notes the Indigenous award comes from an anonymous donor to the program who wanted to empower the efforts of Canadian First Nations, Metis and Inuit youth who are seeking to pursue career training following the completion of their secondary education.
The criteria for applying includes:
-Demonstrated engagement in the school or community.
-A personal statement and recommendations by school and community mentors.
Churchill says applicants must also demonstrate that they have received services from one of their member organizations at some point.
Applications will be accepted until May 31 at Empowered Kids Ontario
