An important milestone for Domtar in Dryden.
Today the mill reached 1 year of recordable injury free operations which is a remarkable accomplishment not often achieved in the pulp and paper sector.
This moment is particularly meaningful as it was achieved at the end of an 8-day scheduled maintenance outage which involved a significantly higher level of activity and risks at the site.
Mill General Manager Marie Cyr says, “The entire management team is so excited to be celebrating this remarkable achievement with our employees. This is a collective effort, where each individual who works here has made a focused effort to keep themselves and their coworkers safe each day.”
Cyr adds, “We operate safely not to achieve milestones. It is the right thing to do to ensure we all go home safe and healthy to our loved ones.”
Marilyn Findlay is the site Health and Safety Manager and says, “We are embracing a proactive safety culture in Dryden. Always thinking ahead and assessing risks before doing a job, no matter how big or how small, is the key to proactive safety management.”
The recognition comes on the heels of the Dryden facility being named the Safest Mill in Canada in its category in 2020 by Pulp and Paper Canada.
The annual contest recognizes the outstanding safety records of participating mills by ranking total recordable incidents from lowest to highest.
