Even when in-person summer camps are allowed, at least one popular regional camp will only be offering programming online.
Camp Quality for Kids affected by cancer is staying virtual this year, according to Northwestern Ontario Director Sam Stovel.
Camp Quality facilitates a 1-week Overnight Summer Camp Program, hosted at Camp Duncan on East Loon Lake just outside of Thunder Bay.
It serves youth from the Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay districts.
Stovel says, “While there’s no replacing that value of an in-person camp experience, this is the safest decision for our campers and we’re proud of the positive impact that we have with our virtual programming with our campers.”
Stovel adds they made the decision with the guidance from their health and safety officials.
She stresses the health and safety of their vulnerable campers was at the forefront.
Stovel is encouraged by other camps going back to in-person activities, adding that will lift some spirits.
Under the new provincial framework camps will be allowed to open in mid-July under Stage 2 of the reopening plan.
