The Northwestern Health Unit reported 29 new cases of COVID-19 within their catchment area between May 9th and 15th, which represents the lowest number of new cases in a week since at least the start of March.
Over that stretch of time, the highest number of new cases reported on one day was seven, which happened on May 11th and May 14th.
The new cases identified by the NWHU last week also mark a 56.7 per-cent drop in new cases when compared to the 67 new cases reported between May 2nd and 8th.
The regional health authority says they’ve now administered 36,662 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, which works out to around 48 per-cent of the entire 18+ population within their catchment area.
There have been a total of 1,031 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported by the Northwestern Health Unit since the pandemic began over a year ago, with 978 marked as resolved.
Heading into a new week, the NWHU says there are 53 active cases within the region. 35 are in the Sioux Lookout health hub, 10 in the Dryden region, six near Kenora and two in the Fort Frances Hub.
