Weekly Column from Kenora MP Eric Melillo
Dear Constituents,
Conservatives continue to stand up for the rights and freedoms of Canadians.
Fighting for Free Speech
The Liberals’ Bill C-10 is a serious threat to freedom of expression, which could give the government the power to regulate what Canadians post on the internet. That’s why Conservatives halted its progress through Parliament and sent it for a Charter review, and why we have called on the Prime Minister to withdraw the Bill.
Conservatives will continue to fight this dangerous Bill. And if the Liberals pass C-10, a Conservative government will repeal it.
A Safe Re-Opening
Canadians don’t want to spend another summer under lockdown – and many in Northwestern Ontario can’t afford to. Unfortunately, thanks to the federal government’s failure to procure vaccines and prevent variants from entering Canada, it looks like we will be facing restrictions for some time.
Conservatives have been calling for federal leadership in delivering a plan for a safe re-opening. Canadians need clear guidelines on when we should expect to see restrictions lifted and what data is being used to determine that timeline.
Community Safety
The Indigenous and Northern Affairs Committee is currently studying public safety in remote communities and the need for increased resources for policing and crime prevention. I appreciated the opportunity to speak with witnesses from the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service about how enforcement resources can be improved in the communities they serve.
