A large grass fire near Balmer Creek in Balmertown is being held and poses no threat to the community.
The blaze ignited Tuesday morning and prompted a quick air and ground response from volunteer municipal firefighters with support from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
The Ministry had two crews, one waterbomber and one Bird Dog aircraft assigned to the blaze.
The fire is currently listed at 15.5 hectares in size
There were five new fires in the Northwest region yesterday and there are four listed as active this morning.
A small blaze about 143 kilometres northeast of Ignace is considered not under control.
The fire hazard is currently at moderate to high across the northwest.
There is some rain in the forecast late Thursday afternoon and possibly Friday, but after that it’s expected to be dry and warm.
