The President and CEO of the Forest Products Association of Canada believes the industry has been a leader throughout the pandemic.
Derek Nighbor says they have faced their fair share of challenges like everyone else, but suggests that they have prevailed.
“Really proud of how our workers have stepped up. How we’ve kept workers safe and we’ve kept our supply chain moving. Forestry is really one of the bright lights in this economy. We’re one of the few sectors that has been able to push through and keep most of our people working.”
He says our country is blessed with plentiful, renewable, sustainable forests, which allows the industry to keep the economy moving.
Nighbor notes the ability to continue to provide for ourselves in terms of lumber, tissue, and toilet paper is critical.
He adds the forest sector is among the best in terms of keeping its workers safe and healthy.
“It’s not only the people working in our woodlands and the people working in our mills, but our partners working construction, in trucks and on rail. Those critical partners that are making sure our supply chain is moving.”
