Area residents 50 years and older can now book an appointment for their COVID-19 vaccine.
Those who have a high risk health condition or fall in the province’s group one of essential workers are also eligible to book their shot as of today (Thursday).
“In most of our communities around 50 percent of people aged 18 and older have now received their first dose of the vaccine,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon. “We are pleased to see the interest in vaccines locally and expect that we will make large gains in coverage rates throughout the month of May. I remind the public that the vaccine is safe and effective and there are very low rates of serious side effects.”
Those who are eligible can book an appointment through the online provincial booking system or by calling 1-833-943-3900.
To date over 29 thousand doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the Northwestern Health Unit catchment area.
According the NWHU’s website, other age groups will follow in the weeks to come with those 40 and older eligible the week of May 10, those 30 and old the week of May 17 and all adults over 18 years old the week of May 24.
