The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting eight new cases of COVID-19 Thursday morning.
Five are from the Kenora health hub, two from the Rainy River area and one from the Fort Frances region.
The NWHU reports that there are now a total of 66 active cases across their catchment area, which is down from the 72 reported on Wednesday.
30 of the active cases are in the Kenora region, 15 in the Fort Frances area, nine in Emo, four in the Sioux Lookout health hub, three near Dryden, two each in Rainy River and Red Lake and one in the Atikokan area.
As of Wednesday (April 28th) Wauzhushk Onigum Nation (located within the Kenora health hub) reports a total of 19 active cases with five tests still awaiting results.
While the number of active cases is down, the number of hospitalizations has increased from three to five.
To date, the regional health authority says 26,742 doses of vaccine have been administered, which works out to 28 per-cent of the entire population and 39 per-cent of those 18 and older.
