Did you forget about the 2021 Oscars last night? If so, you’re not the only one! Ratings for these award shows have been on a downward spiral for the last couple years, and I’m sure that the pandemic didn’t help things this time around either. Why is this happening?
Is it because we don’t care what rich people have to say? Was it the lack of advertising leading up to the event? Or have we all grown tired of award shows and what they stand for?
Don’t get me wrong – last night Oscar’s made a huge step forward to be more inclusive with many people of colour winning awards, something that has been an ongoing issue for Hollywood.
The Oscars first started over 90 years ago in 1929 and have given out over 3000 golden statues.
I’d say it’s time for a refresh. What that looks like, I’m not sure. But I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this… are award shows dying? Did you watch the Oscars? Do you still care?
