The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting eight new COVID positives Tuesday.
Three come from the Fort Frances area, two in Emo, two in the Sioux Lookout Health Hub and one in the Kenora region.
There are now 49 active cases across all Health Hubs; 21 Sioux Lookout, 14 Emo, 6 Kenora, 4 Dryden and 4 Fort Frances.
In a media update this afternoon, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says there is heighted risk of COVID-19 in both the Sioux Lookout and Emo Health Hubs.
Of the 21 active cases in the Sioux Lookout region, seven are in the municipality itself.
Last week there were 51 new cases reported with 17 related to an outbreak, 12 being close contacts, two related to travel and the source of exposure remains unknown for 20 cases at this time.
Currently two people are hospitalized in the region with COVID-19.
The Northwestern Health Unit notes our region’s COVID-19 percent positivity rate has nearly doubled compared to last week at 2.2 percent, is now 4.04 percent.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit recorded its 60th death related to the virus.
There are 54 active cases after 11 new confirmations.
Ontario numbers are below 4 thousand for the first time in a few days with 3,469 new cases.
There were 22 deaths.
