Porter Airlines is resetting its tentative date for resuming flights to June 21 due to ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions and border closures.
The company was hoping to have planes back in the air on May 19.
President and CEO Michael Deluce says in recent weeks, there has been open discussion by government officials about easing travel restrictions based on expectations that vaccination programs will be well advanced in the U.S. and Canada by early summer.
Deluce adds they will begin the process of rebuilding their operations as soon as conditions allow based on government decisions.
Officials say they are closely watching developments and stress Porter will be an important part of providing people with travel options as the economy recovers.
The company is preparing to introduce enhanced health and safety measures for its return to service.
In the meantime, Porter is waiving change and cancellation fees on all fares and vacation packages booked between April 12 and June 21.
Operations were temporarily suspended on March 21, 2020, due to COVID-19.
