The Loomex Group stresses the Dryden Regional Airport plays a vital role in the growth of the community.
The agency is out with a new forward thinking Strategic Plan.
Loomex has been operating the facility for over a year and President and CEO Trent Gervais says already they see great opportunity with what’s happening here with mining and hydro builds.
Gervais also points to the success of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry firefighting operation to attract jobs to the area.
He says he believes the airport could act as a regional transportation hub linking us to the Far North.
“Dryden is well situated to be able to provide the vital services through the movement of goods and through life safety. So we’re also looking at that as an opportunity. The other thing is Dryden has played a big role in the past with evacuations from northern communities.
He says one goal in their new plan is working with staff and Council in Dryden to construct an Evacuation Centre on airport property.
Gervais notes the facilities central location is perfect for the existing climate.
“We find that today’s business operators, they want to be able to come in and do their meetings and get out and move to the next place. So the airport plays that important role when the City of Dryden is looking at attracting business to the industry, you know that connectivity or that ‘last mile’ if you will.”
Gervais talks about how challenges facing the airport could lead to more opportunities:
Gervais says the airport has had a great management team and great staff over the years so they are taking the strategic plan and building on some of the great work that has already been accomplished to date.
He stresses the airport is a ‘Jewel for the Community’ and he commends the Mayor and Council on supporting it in its efforts to move forward with the plan.
