The Red Lake/Ear Falls Mobile Crisis Response Program is expanding to offer day-time support to those experiencing a mental health or addictions crisis.
A new crisis worker is in place and the service is now available from 10 am to 2 am, Monday to Friday, in addition to 24 hours on weekends.
The team consists of a crisis worker and an OPP officer with a mandate to:
-Meet the person in crisis where they are or at a safe location convenient to them
-Conduct on-site clinical assessment
-Attempt to stabilize and defuse the crisis
-Assist in removing the individual from serious harm to themselves or others
-Provide crisis counselling
In addition, anyone experiencing a mental health or addictions crisis can call 1-888-888-8988 to talk about anything that is causing concern, worry or distress.
Examples might be suicidal thoughts or feelings, mental health problems, addiction issues, family violence, abuse, relationship conflicts, or loss.
The Regional Crisis Line provides immediate, free, and confidential emotional support, crisis intervention and information to people of all ages, 24 hours a day, everyday.
When some someone calls the crisis line, they will be:
-Invited to talk about the situation and their associated feelings and concerns
-Helped to identify and explore options that might be helpful to them and their situation
-Assisted in sorting out what they might do to manage the situation and increase their ability to cope with it
-Offered information about other available community services that might be helpful to them
The Red Lake/Ear Falls Crisis Mobile Response Team can be accessed through the Regional Crisis Line, the OPP, or the Red Lake Hospital.
