The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is addressing any and all COVID-19 concerns in the community.
With the recent increase in cases in the Sioux Lookout Health Hub, the municipality has launched a COVID Coordination Committee.
Mayor Doug Lawrance introduced the team in a video update.
“We are proactively exploring additional resources to support the community and create the best possible local response to the pandemic. Residents can rest assure we are able to handle the case load at the present time. The rollout of vaccinations will be stepped up in the coming weeks in Sioux Lookout.”
The Committee is also working with partners to identify groups that may not fit into the provincial model but should be a local priority group to get the vaccine,
in order to slow the spread of the virus in northwestern Ontario.
Lawrance calls our region’s placement in the Red Zone a stern reminder to take public health measures seriously.
“The Northwestern Health Unit is working hard both on case management and contact tracing, as well as implementing the vaccine rollout in our community. As cases are identified, there is also a need for isolation, not all community members live in settings that allow for isolation.”
Several agencies and the municipality’s COVID Coordination Committee are combining their efforts to ensure all community members and those from Northern communities, who must travel for essential or medical reasons through Sioux Lookout, will have a place to isolate if required.
As of Monday March 22 on the Northwestern Health Unit website, the Sioux Lookout Health Hub leads the way in active COVID-19 cases in the region with 37.
The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority reports ‘Sioux Lookout area First Nations with 24 active cases on reserve’, as of Tuesday March 23.
