A blockbuster deal announced in the Canadian business world.
Rogers is looking to take over Shaw for $26 billion.
The president of Tbaytel believes it is premature to speculate about the ramifications.
“It’s too early to say the exact impact this acquisition will have on the industry in general as that will be dependent on decisions made throughout the process,” said Dan Topatigh the President and CEO of Tbaytel.
Topatigh adds the proposed deal “does not change the competitive landscape” in the communities they serve in Northwestern Ontario and that “Today is the beginning of a lengthy process that will include input from regulators and the government.”
As part of the offer, Rogers is promising to invest over $2 billion to establish 5G networks in Western Canada by 2026.
Also included is a promise of a $1-billion fund to connect rural, remote and Indigenous communities in Western Canada to high-speed Internet.
