The province will begin letting seniors book COVID-19 vaccinations online and by phone through a new portal launching Monday.
However, Premier Doug Ford says it’s critical not to try to skip the line if you were born after 1941.
“In this phase of our plan we are still offering vaccines to our most vulnerable, so I encourage everyone aged 80 and older to use the portal to book an appointment,” Ford says. “For everyone else, please be patient, as we get more supply, the vaccine will be offered to more people.”
Retired General Rick Hillier points out that the province doesn’t expect to reach those under age 80 until mid-April, other than those who belong to groups included in the initial roll-out.
When booking an appointment, individuals will be asked for information from their green Ontario health card, birth date, postal code and email address and/or phone number.
Those who still have a red and white health card, need assistance or can’t book online can call the Provincial Vaccine Information Line number at 1-888-999-6488, which opens Monday and will operate Monday to Sunday from 8 AM to 8 PM..
Hillier is confident the phone line can handle province-wide call volumes, saying over 2,200 operators are ready to handle as many as 10,000 calls per hour.
Northwestern Health Unit clinics are set to start the week of March 22.
