The Lake of the Woods District Hospital is still investigating how an outbreak of COVID-19 was able to take place.
According to information from the facility, as many as 10 patients tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend.
Ray Racette is president and CEO of the hospital and says they continue to test staff and patients in an attempt to find the source of the outbreak.
“Everyone coming into the building is being screened, asked the same questions, and has to wear a mask,” says Racette, “Those things…there’s no exception to those rules. Our rules our consistent but our vulnerability is that we don’t test everybody and can’t know their COVID-19 status.”
He adds that because they don’t test everyone, there is a lot of trust being extended.
“We’re really relying on people being honest. In reality, someone could have the virus but be asymptomatic and that’s the challenge.”
Racette says any staff that had close contact with the COVID-19 positive patients are being tested at the hospital.
He adds that there have been no new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, and so far no one has had to go into the Intensive Care Unit as a result of the outbreak.
