Health Canada has approved the Johnson and Johnson COVID vaccine.
It will be produced by J & J’s pharmaceutical arm, Jenssen Inc. with Health Canada’s Dr. Supriya Sharma making the announcement in Ottawa by noting is it the only approved vaccine that requires only one dose.
The Jenssen vaccine is meant to be used in adults aged 18 and older.
“A vaccine that prevents severe disease and protects against COVID-related hospitalization and death will help ease the burden on Canadians and the strain on our healthcare systems,” said Dr. Ebele Ola, Vice President, Medical Affairs, Janssen Canada.
“Our single-shot COVID-19 vaccine is a critical tool for fighting this global pandemic.”
It is the fourth vaccine to be approved in Canada.
