FIREFLY in Kenora/Rainy River has issued an apology for “racially insensitive and offensive comments” made on social media by one of their employees.
The organization that helps children, youth and families says it is heartbroken and the individuals comment was an act of racism and in no way reflects their work and values.
Officials add they denounce all forms of hate speech, racism, and misinformation that has been circulating.
The FIREFLY logo was used in the social media post and the matter is under investigation.
This follows a plea from Grand Council Treaty Three for people to act properly and not create divisions at a critical time and when COVID-19 caseloads in the Kenora area stand at 76.
Most are contained to one area community.
