The province’s Stay At Home order impacting the Kenora-Rainy River region is over.
Our area is now at the Yellow or Protect level.
MPP Greg Rickford doesn’t think the most recent outbreaks of COVID-19 in the Kenora area will impact our standing on the provincial grid.
“We’re committed to keeping (Kenora-Rainy River) in Yellow. We would have to see a significant spike, and I can’t even tell you what that might be in order to change, but that’s not what we’re considering at this point in time at all.”
Rickford adds up until now we’ve been doing relatively well.
“This did come up in a conversation with my Ministries. People should understand the colour that we are in on the Framework is a function of collection of data over a couple of weeks. Up until this outbreak, Kenora had been at times Green.”
There are 66 active cases in Wabaseemoong Independent Nation, near Kenora.
Another 80 people are still waiting for their test results.
The community has been in a full lockdown since last Wednesday night.
No one is allowed in or out of the community except for emergency reasons.
The Northwestern Health Unit reported 51 new positive cases in the Kenora area over the long weekend.
