It’s been a long time coming but the Dryden Ski Club is finally opening for what they hope will be the season.
Matt Corbett with the Dryden Ski Club was a guest on the CKDR morning show today to talk about opening day.
“Our plan is to be open and operating on Wednesday by 5 p.m (for night ski until 9 p.m). The expectation is just, be prepared when you arrive at the ski hill. Come to the hill in your ski boots, your snowboard boots and be ready to be outside.”
Corbett adds this is an effort to reduce the amount of people in the chalet as much as possible, but you’ll still able to purchase rentals, warm up and grab a bite to eat.
The club has added an extra night of skiing and boarding to make up for lost time.
“Hours of operation are going to be Wednesday and Friday nights from 5 to 9 p. m, yes that’s correct a Friday night-something different to do in Dryden! And also Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m-4 p. m.”
Corbett talks about some of the COVID-19 protocols that will be in place at the hill.
“One of the things that we’re asking of you is to wear a mask, there will be no outside food or bags allowed inside the chalet it will be just like a restaurant, come in order your food and be waited on, bathrooms are limited to one person, rentals you come in and get them then head right back outside.”
Physical distancing will also be followed and in terms of programming the hill will only be offering private lessons booked in advance.
Corbett says they’re excited to welcome back skiers and boarders to the hill.
“We need something to do in our community so I think that it’s going to be great and we’re really looking forward to seeing the community and having your support to make this work. Our plan is to operate as long as we can this year, so we want to see you out there!”

The provincial government announced last week ski hills would be allowed to reopen as the stay-at-home order is lifted in public health regions.
Our region is now in the Yellow-Protect level of Ontario’s COVID-19 Response Framework, with some restrictions still in place.
