Confederation College continues to work on a COVID-19 recovery plan.
President Kathleen Lynch says the main priority is getting enrolment numbers back to near normal.
“Pre-COVID we have 58 different programs we offer and 11 areas of study. We had over 7,700 full and part time students studying with us, over 1,100 Indigenous students.”
Lynch adds the school also saw over 1,700 International students.
Lynch says unfortunately the pandemic hit and they saw their international student enrolment negatively impacted by COVID travel restrictions.
She notes the school did see an uptick in domestic students which helped cushion the blow.
Lynch says the immediate goal is attracting foreign students back to the college to achieve about a 40% International enrolment as well as grow their Indigenous enrolment.
She says another part of their plan is tapping into their alumni.
“We know our alumni are great ambassadors for the college. We have a significant impact on the economy of northwestern Ontario of over $643 million and we will be updating this figure this year.”
