Two regional professional soccer teams won’t be hitting the field this year.
The Thunder Bay Chill and FC Manitoba have opted out of the 2021 United Soccer League 2 season.
The only two Canadian clubs in the league play in the eight team Heartland Division.
Chill President Tony Colistro says the pandemic and the ongoing border closure presents too much of an obstacle for them to participate for a second straight year.
Colistro calls it a difficult decision, but says it’s out of caution for the safety of everyone at the soccer club.
The club is promising to come back better than ever next year.
