Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa is calling on the Ford government to provide area First Nations and local health teams with every resource needed to contain COVID-19 and keep people safe.
The virus has now spread to five northern communities and Mamakwa states local health teams and residents are doing everything they can to contain it.
Moderna doses have arrived in some first nations and Mamakwa urges eligible residents to get vaccinated.
“I know many of us have had enough of this virus and we all wonder when this pandemic will end. The answer is when we all have immunity. Which means we all take the vaccine.”
Mamakwa adds “As more of us get vaccinated the end is in sight of this pandemic. Our languages and our traditions will be able to be passed down from our Elders to our future generations.”
He stresses the vaccine is safe and is 95% effective.
The NDP Critic for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation is urging the province to accelerate the delivery of additional vaccines.
I am confident we can overcome this pandemic.
I know there is some distrust and hesitancy in taking the vaccine. Personally, I’ve gathered the facts, trust in the science, and I’m ready to do my part.
Please join me in getting the COVID-19 vaccine and ending this pandemic. pic.twitter.com/zN4xNnhrPn
