The Chief Medical Officer of Health of the Northwestern Health Unit says we can expect to see fluctuating COVID-19 numbers over the next couple of weeks.
After a quiet couple of days, the health unit is reporting six new cases today.
Dr. Kit Young Hoon says this is normal.
“Numbers just naturally go up and down. You can not predict exactly when cases are going to show up. It would be unrealistic to assume that we will have this consistent number that just gradually increases day-over-day, or gradually decreases day-over-day.”
She says the timing of testing also plays a factor.
“Generally Testing Assessment Centres tend to do most of their testing during the week, so Monday to Friday. By the time you ship it to a lab, get it tested and then get the result, that means that the results tend to show up on certain days as opposed to other days.”
The Friday report shows two new cases in the District of Rainy River, two in the Kenora region and two in the Dryden/Red Lake district.
There are 12 active cases in the region and since March we have seen 240 confirmed cases, 4 probable cases and 1 death.
The health unit says 2 people remain in hospital with COVID-19 and there have been 13 hospitalization since the start of the pandemic.
The province logged 2,662 new cases today, as well as 87 more deaths related to the disease.
