It may the fall before everyone in our area who wants a vaccine against COVID-19 gets their shots.
Dr. Kit Young Hoon is the Medical Officer of Health for the Northwestern Health Unit and says the province is moving as fast as it can.
“I recognize that people want this vaccine as soon as possible and I assure that we are all working as fast as we can. But there are limitations to any type of new vaccine in getting it out and it’s just basically logistics in the production and distribution of any vaccine.”
She says “This is a new vaccine. It needs to be produced and manufactured in a way that’s safe and that it needs to be distributed across very large geographies. There is the National Distribution process. There is the Provincial Distribution process. All of that is quite complicated.”
Dr. Kit Young Hoon adds “There is a push to move as quickly as we can. My understanding is that all stakeholders are moving as fast as they can. There are meetings that happened throughout the holidays. Work that’s happened on Christmas Day, on New Years Day, to keep on moving forward with the push out of vaccines.”
There have been complaints that Ontario and the federal government are being slow to roll out the vaccine.
Last week, several residents in a long term care facility in Sioux Lookout received the first vaccine in this region.
